Getting the most from your Big Trip
You don’t need a lot to get the most out of your Big Trip experience, but there are a few things you can do to maximize the experience.
Your Browser
First things first, are you using a decent browser? In case you aren’t up to speed, IE sucks. Big time. I like Firefox, which has fewer pop-ups, makes sites (like this one) look prettier, and generally speeds things up. It’s also free. Click on the icon on the left-hand side to download it and get started.
Video Info
The video on this site is done with flash, so you shouldn’t need to install any special programs or plugins. It would be helpful to download the latest version. You can do that here. I try to find the right balance between quality and file size when I encode all the videos, but I usually err on the side of quality. A high-speed internet connection will help you get the most out of bigtripblog.com.
Audio Info
Some articles that have With Audio! next to the title have an embedded sound file with them. This is designed to give you a full multimedia experience. I recommend you press the play buttom before you start reading the article for as close to an immersive experience as you can get from a webpage. The audio on bigtripblog.com is binaural, and sounds best when listened to with headphones. I recommend using a pair when browsing this site. For more info on our audio, click here.
Newsletter
We have a newsletter that will be sent out on a semi-regular basis. We don’t share email addresses with anyone, so don’t worry about that. Subscribing and unsubscribing is a snap. There will be some content in the newsletter that won’t be on the site, so don’t miss out!
Feeds
RSS feeds are the latest way to keep track of your favorite sites. You can see buttons to add this page to several feed programs on the right-hand side of every page. If you want to be notified every time this site is updated, be sure to check these out.
Comments
What would a blog be without comments? On each individual post page, there is a section at the bottom where you can enter comments about the article, video, podcast, etc. The photo gallery also has comments enabled! Your email address is obscured from spam crawlers, so don’t worry about that. Let us know what you think!
Support this site
This site is not a commercial site, but it does cost money to maintain. We have set up the ability to accept donations from Paypal, and have also put up some advertisements to help us cover our expenses for the website while we travel. We appreciate all the help we can get, and will be sure to let you know how much we appreciate you if you help us out! Of course if you are reading this that means you found us, and we appreciate all the readers we can get, so thanks!
