The awesome people over at World Nomads were kind enough to sponsor us with free travel insurance for six months. It's something you need anyway, so why not check them out and help us out at the same time?

BTBtv Episode #13: Koh Pha Ngan

Posted March 31st, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

Lucky Thirteen for BTBtv, with a video about the crazy party island of Koh Pha Ngan (I’m finally spelling it right!) in the Gulf of Thailand. Beautiful beaches and a non-stop party atmosphere make this one of Thailand’s most popular destinations, particulary with young backpackers. We didn’t make it to a Full Moon Party, but I think you can kind of get the idea. And of course we’d like to thank our special guests for helping us out! As usual, if you don’t see the video make sure you have the latest version of Flash installed.

First familiar faces

Posted March 30th, 2007 by Valerie Marshall

When we got to Thailand we found out that two of our really great friends were coming, too! We hadn’t seen a familiar face since we left London last September. Kevin and I get along great and all, but man, that’s just a really long time.

Quiet beaches, roaches, and bare breasts

Posted March 29th, 2007 by Valerie Marshall

As we mentioned before, we left Bangkok to go to Ko Pah Ngan for our first Thai beach adventure. We were planning on meeting some friends at Hat Rin, the “party beach,” so for the five days we went to the northern end of the island for more secluded and quiet beaches.

South Indian Breakfast - Idli

Posted March 23rd, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

This is just a short video we made in Bombay before leaving. I’m rethinking the video format on the site. That explains why there hasn’t been much lately. Everyone is on YouTube, and then there’s Travelistic. So I’m thinking of distributing videos that way from now on, as well as making them shorter and more frequent. We’ll see how that turns out. But for now, check out some different food!

One Small Mistake - An Adventure in Local Transport

Posted March 23rd, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

A while back I ditched my crappy travel tripod and have been carrying around my much sturdier (and larger) Slik tripod instead. Besides the obvious problem with its size and weight, it doesn’t fit in my pack the way my smaller one did. I had a custom case made for it in Kathmandu, but I still have to carry it around separately. It’s just one more thing to think about. Or forget. And forget it I did, on our train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, gateway to the most popular islands in the Gulf of Thailand. more»

Searching for that perfect beach

Posted March 18th, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

So we’re in Thailand. We were in Bangkok for a couple of days, but didn’t manage to do any sightseeing. All we did was figure out which beach we wanted to get to, how to get to it, and then buy stuff you would want to take with you. In three days we were out and on our way to Koh Phan Ng, party central in Southeast Asia. more»

India Recap

Posted March 18th, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

You might recall the cute little acronym some people in Nepal made up to describe India:  I’ll Never Do It Again.  After some six weeks or so exploring the three largest cities, Varanasi, and the heavily touristed state of Rajasthan, we are prepared to give our verdict:  more»

Bombay Rocks

Posted March 13th, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

We love Bombay. Its wide streets free it from some of the congestion common in Delhi and the air doesn’t sting the eyes and lungs like Calcutta. It’s got a cosmopolitan feel to it, along with beautiful architecture from the days of Empire. The palm trees and waterside location don’t hurt, either. more»

Veg or Non-Veg?

Posted March 12th, 2007 by Kevin Allgood

India is a very vegetarian-friendly country, as you might imagine, because so many people here don’t eat meat for religious reasons. Nepal is much the same way, although I don’t think the percentage of the population is quite as high. Restaurants and menus everywhere are either “Veg” or “Veg and Non-Veg,” or are divided into sections of the same name. more»
