Where buses shouldn’t go

Posted December 29th, 2006 by Kevin Allgood

The very last leg of our trek was probably the most dangerous - a bus ride from a place called Beni back to Pokhara. Some sections of the road don’t look like they are made for large, ancient buses, but somehow our driver managed to navigate them. It’s often best not to look out the window, since you don’t really want to know what it looks like out there.

The rickety old bus was packed, with some people standing in the aisle. Even though it seemed like we defied death multiple times during the journey, nobody so much as flinched. Passengers brought all kinds of things on the bus, from giant saws to a large piece of glass plate.

It was definitely one of the most interesting bus rides we’ve taken so far.

  1. Uncle Tom says

This story reminds me of the bus ride Jackie and I took to a beach on St.Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. It was so beautiful and she would shout “look at that”. I was by the window and try as I might, that 3,000 foot drop just inches away took the pleasure out of the view.
